Anti Cancer Diet: Top 12 Cancer Fighting Foods

Ellen Marsh

What can I eat on the anti cancer diet? At least a dozen common foods suppress cancer cell growth by 90 percent or more. Eating these cancer fighting foods on a daily basis has been life changing for me in overcoming brain cancer.

It's easy to start a cancer fighting diet by adding a few of these foods to meals every day. There are many foods that can help suppress cancer growth, but in laboratory studies, extracts of these foods have been the most effective on five types of cancer: brain cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer.

Start with Leafy Greens...

  • Kale

The TOP CHOICE among green vegetables.
Kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods.

  • Spinach

Another great choice. Spinach has a milder taste that blends with other foods. It also may be easier to find in grocery stores. Buying spinach frozen can save time - no washing, sorting and or chopping needed. But you may pay more.

Anti Cancer Diet - Garlic

Add Allium Vegetables

  • Garlic
  • Leeks
  • Onions
  • Scallions (green onions)

And Cruciferous Vegetables

  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Broccoli
  • Broccoli Sprouts - These are 80 times more nutrient dense than full grown broccoli. So if you don't like the taste of broccoli, you can eat a much smaller amount of broccoli sprouts and get just as many nutrients.
  • Cabbage
  • Savoy Cabbage
  • Cauliflower

Where did I learn about the Anti Cancer Diet?

I first read about the anti cancer diet in Dr. David Servan-Schreiber's Anticancer: A New Way of Life.  Dr. Servan-Schreiber used this diet to help him overcome brain cancer after two brain surgeries failed to stop it from advancing.

I was inspired to begin the same practice after learning I had brain cancer in 2009. I was a vegetarian for many years before being diagnosed, but I learned that this is not enough to stay healthy. Certain foods are far more powerful against cancer than others. Once I began to eat these anti cancer foods daily, my tumor stopped growing and I've been able to avoid brain surgery.

I learned about these cancer fighting spices in Healing Spices by Dr. Bharat Aggarwal, PhD. Since 1989 he has served as professor of cancer research, biochemistry, immunology and experimental therapeutics at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

I first discovered Healing Spices at my local library. I learned that Dr. Aggarwal has become a champion of turmeric after being involved in researching turmeric health benefits.

It's a fantastic reference book, recipe book, and gave me the information I needed to make my food taste a lot more exciting! Having this book in my kitchen helped me stay motivated to stick with an anti cancer diet.
